The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia
The state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has set itself the goal of further strengthening the business world, modernizing old industrial regions and developing a broad basis of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). It is supported in doing so by the Chamber of Industry & Commerce and the European Union, whereby the funding of incentive programs comes partly from the national budget and partly from the EU structural funds program. The cooperation with regional networks accounts for the fact that the individual regions in North Rhine-Westphalia display major structural differences.
Just like the euCEP project described above, many initiatives are supported by the regional incentive program of NRW (RPW). Particular value is attached to stimulating the so-called »Euregios«. These involve links between areas in the border region with Belgium and the Netherlands, so that these can benefit from one another. This development is stimulated in particular by the state treaty between NRW, Lower Saxony, Germany and the Netherlands. This must signify an important step into the future with the goal of realizing a Europe of regions.
